ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS AND PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA

Acupuncture

  • The therapist has to be member in good standing of College of accupuncturists from his province

Chiropractic

  • The therapist has to be member in good standing of College of  chiropractors from his province

Homeopathy

1500 hours, divided as follows:

  • 735 hours of homeopathic theory
  • 240 hours observation training
  • 180 hours anatomy and physiology
  • 150 hours medical pathology and microbiology
  • 135 hours of additional disciplines: energetic, nutrition, relation helping relationship, office management and ethics
  • 60 hours of individual clinical training.

Kinesitherapy

Prerequisite:
400 hours of recognized studies as massage therapist practitioner

Minimum of 600 hours in kinesitherapy training divided as follows:

  • Therapeutic massage - Kinesitherapy aspect
  • Anatomy II-III
  • Sports massage and reflexology
  • Helping relationship - Level II
  • Pregnancy and children massage
  • Initiation to Californian massage
  • Polarity
  • Business administration
  • Supervised stages
  • A training in Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) of 15 hours of a recognized organization is required.

Kinesiology

Massotherapy
Massage therapist

400 hours minimum of supervised training divided as follows:

  • Introduction (15hours)
  • Approach: 150 heures minimum. You have the choice of one of the following approaches:  Swedish  (190 h), Californien (190 h), Shiatsu (190 h), Esalen (190 h), Amma (150h), Neo-reichien (210 h), Jin Shin Do (250 h minimum), Polarity (190 h), Thai Yoga Massage TYM (240h), Chinese, Sport massage (195 heures) including Trigger point  (15 h), therapeutic Shiatsu   (330 heures à 480 heures), Swiss massage (1300 h), Momentum (190h), OCÉÜM (190h), Trager (250h)
  • Anatomy: (45 hours)
  • Physiopathology: (45 hours)
  • Professional aspects (15 hours)
  • Deontology, legal aspects: (30 hours)
  • Sexuality and professional practice: (45 hours)
  • Helping Relation: (30 hours)
  • Interview techniques: (15 hours)
  • Supervised clinic: (30 hours minimum 60 hours maximum).

Senior massage therapist

Prerequisite: Massage therapist level

1000 hours, including a compulsory training as massage therapist of 400  hours and at least 600 hours of supplementary training divided as follows:

  • Approach: 150 heures minimum. You have the choice of one of the following approaches:  Swedish  (190 h), Kinesitherapy, Californien (190 h), Shiatsu (190 h), Esalen (190 h), Amma (150h), Néo-reichien (210 h), Jin Shin Do (250 h minimum), Polarity (190 h), Thai Yoga Massage TYM (240h), Chinese, Sport massage (195 heures) including Trigger point  (15 h), therapeutic Shiatsu   (330 heures à 480 heures), Swiss massage (1300 h), Momentum (190h), OCÉÜM (190h), Trager (250h)
  • Student clinic and supervision: 40 hours minimum 60 hours maximum.
  • Personal integration and professional intervention (45 hours)
  • Helping relation and interview technique (45 hours)
  • Administration, marketing, file keeping (45 hours).
  • Anatomy / physiology / pathology (45 hours)
  • Optional classes of which: psychopathology, psychosomatic, helping relation, psychology, nutrition (45 hours)
  • 225 hours complements and\or improvement related to the disciplines of your choice that are recognized by the ACDM while respecting the maximums of each.
  • Additional techniques (min. 45 hours): lymphatic Drainage, sports massage, reflexology, therapeutic touch or development in a basic technique (max. 100 hours) in one of physical, energy, psycho-physical approaches recognized as practitioner. Alexander, Feldenkrais. Professional improvement: physiotherapy, TRP, ergotherapy, homoeopathy, acupuncture, naturopathy, osteopathy,   somatotherapy, nutritional approaches, aromatherapy, algotherapy.

NLP Master

Requirements:

  • Training as Hynosis practitioner

Training should have been provided by an INLPTA (International NLP Trainers Association) accredited school.

A practical evaluation is compulsory in order to become a member, except for those who already pass the hypnosis practitioner exam.

Naturopathy

1000 hours, divided as follows:

  • 270 hours vitamin therapy, oligo-elements, iridology, file evaluation, etc.
  • 150 hours Phytotherapy
  • 150 hours anatomy            
  • 150 hours pathology
  • 150 hours nutrition
  • 45 hours essential oil
  • 45 hours hygiene of life
  • Containing 40 hours: professional ethics, helping relation, sexuality, legal aspect, etc.

Doctor in naturopathy

  • In few province of Canada, the medical education of the doctors in naturopathy consists of a four years full time program, is 4000 hours, which includes notably an important clinical training in place of residence.
  • At the term of the program of four years, the students must have successfully undergone tests internationally sanctioned in naturopathy, which lead to obtaining the licence to practice from the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners before obtaining a license giving them the right to practice.

Naturotherapy

Prerequisite: Practitioner in massage therapy (400 hours)
On the top of this base training, the therapist needs:

  • 400h of naturotherapy approaches or
  • 200h of naturotherapy approaches and 200h of complementary massage technique

Accepted naturotherapy approach:

  • Aromatherapy
  • Auriculotherapy
  • Phytotherapy
  • Reiki
  • MLD
  • Nutrition
  • Essentielle oil
  • Reflexology
  • ...

Orthotherapy
Prerequisite: Kinesitherapy
On the top of this base training, the therapist needs:
200 hours of orthotherapy

Ostheopathy D.O.
Criteria : university degree in a health science branch or equivalent (physiotherapy, biology, pharmacy, etc.)

Training in an osteopathy school recognized by ACTMD.
Theses succeeded in presence of an osteopath jury or clinical internship

Hypnosis
1000 hours, divided as follows:

  • Introduction
  • Supervised clinical training
  • Study of the types of inductions
  • Technique of interview, protocol and file keeping
  • Helping relationship
  • Suggestion's Technique
  • Fields of knowledge in other types of therapies
  • Anatomy of the pain
  • Acquired behaviour vs innate
  • Guided visualization / reinterpretation of internal mechanisms
  • Somatic / psychosomatic disorders
  • Pedohypnosis
  • Ethics, legal aspects

Practical exam is required before being given evidence.

Physiotherapy

  • The therapist has to be member in good standing of College of  physiotherapists from his province

Physical rehabilitation therapy (PRT)

  • The therapist has to be member in good standing of College of  physical rehabilitation therapist from his province

Somatherapy

  1. Awarded a first diploma of soma-therapist at the end of the 2nd year of study at Academie Sutherland
  2. Need to be member of SoCaTo (Canadian Society for the Tradition in Osteopathy)
  3. Proof of professional liability insurance

Title recognize by ACTMD
Members accredited with the ACDM will have one of the following titles:

  • Kinesiologist
  • Kinesitherapist
  • Massage therapist
  • Naturopath
  • Naturotherapist
  • NLP Master
  • Orthotherapist

You can also be the holder of 2 titles ex: Massage therapist-Naturotherapist, Kinesitherapist-Naturotherapist etc.

It is understood that the candidates should owe:

  • To meet standards required with the ACDM and hold diplomas.
  • To respect code of ethics
  • To show a stable personality.
  • To take a practical exam and if necessary, a theoretical exam proving the competence of the candidate and the validity of the presented documents.
  • Hold a high school diploma or the equivalent or to have an experiment considered to be relevant
  • Add 18 years old

MODIFICATIONS

Training hours required, for disciplines and their complements mentioned above, can prone to change.

Take note that the ACDM recognizes only the disciplines mentioned above. On the other hand, if yours is not there, additions can be considered.
