RECEIPTS CONTROL AT THE SPA
by Jocelyn Vincent, translated by ACTMD's team

Massage Therapists working in SPAS often ask how to control their receipts when the SPA ask them to leave their signed receipt booklets at the front desk.

It is important to note that the Therapist is responsible for their receipts as indicated in the Code of Ethics, article 13.1.1:  The therapist must use the official receipts of the association. The therapist is also responsible of receipts in his possession, of their uses and can only be the unique user and signatory of it.

ACTMD's preferred approach to this issue is the same as used in many SPAS.

Responsibility is divided in two.  That of the SPA and that of the Therapist.

SPA's responsibility

  • To have a locked area where Massage Therapist receipt booklets are kept.
  • Delegate one or two trusted staff members and giving them access to the locked area.
  • To avoid using the wrong receipt booklet, only take those receipts of the scheduled Therapists of the day.
  • Receipts should be completed by a limited number of well-trained personnel, to adequately complete these receipts.

Responsibilities of the Therapist

  • Prior to starting work, the Therapist should sign a number of receipts according to their workload that day.  It may also be a good thing to sign a couple extra receipts, in case of error.
  • At the end of the day, Therapists should verify those completed receipts to ensure that there are no errors.

As you have noticed, it is possible to manage one's receipts in complete security when both parties work together.

If the SPA where you are working is not familiar with this procedure, please do not hesitate to inform them.  Give this article to the responsible party.
